Dianne, nice to see you here.

Thank you for your perceptive comments.

I have one main disagreement: You said that "more and communication and understanding are needed at the beginning, but that is a long way off". This is exactly what I am working on- encouraging this communication and clarity at the beginning before there is even any agreement for work. I am offering interactive coaching and training in this regard. I think it is possible to change some patterns and perceptions, or else I would not be doing it.

And, I think the construction industry does have plenty of greed in it, but there are also plenty of honorable people working in it, too. I like what you said about honest money for quality, honest work. In the corporate world you talk of collars are whiter, and perhaps some of the greed is more devious and passed off as shrewdness.

Thanks for your stimulating comments!

Corporate greed has always been a hot topic. It is refreshing to hear that the construction industry hasn't fallen to that aspect of business. The American dream isn't based on greed, its based on an honest day of pay for an honest day of work, quality work. I praise you for your insight to the quality of work being linked to the quality of relationship building through communication between the consumer and the businessperson. You are right, more communication and understanding is needed at the beginning of the deal, but that is a long way off. Mediation is needed in all business, regardless of its size. Yes, sometimes smaller is better, its a win-win. You can enjoy your niche and give great customer service. I always feel as though I am getting a more personalized service in dealing with local small companies where I can speak to the person responsible for the work. I would rather pay more, knowing I am getting my moneys worth, than less and feeling ripped off.
